Son of Gaines Gaius Whitfield and Mary Ann Whitfield.

Three boys, all barefoot pictured out of doors. The two older children wear dark jackets, white shirts, long trousers. The youngest boy is in white dress with narrow sash typical to this time.

Boys are James Bryan (1842-1914)
Bryan (1844-1862) and youngest,
George (1848-1871)

All three served The Confederate States of America Army during The War Between the States. Bryan died of camp fever at the age of 18. The Rose Window in Trinity Episcopal Church was designed and erected in his memory. James received a medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Their mother is Mary Ann Whitfield sister of General Nathan Bryan Whitfield. The portrait was Inherited by the grandson of James Bryan Whitfield.
