Mary Exie Hortman Perkins, 86, of Blakely died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Early Memorial Nursing Home.

Mrs. Perkins was born in Quitman County, Ga. Nov. 11, 1921, to the late Oliver Jackson Hortman and Exie Virginia Mitchell Hortman. She was a member of the Blakely First Baptist Church, the Gideon's Auxillary, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Blakely Garden Club. She worked in retail sales.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Elbert Perkins; two brothers, Horace Hortman and Bill Hortman; four sisters, Clara Culbreath, Mamie Lee Hill, Vonceil Carter and Mattie Jo Hortman; and one greatgrandson, Ethan Isaac Shark Brokhoff.

Survivors include one son, Ray Perkins and wife Priscilla of Blakely; two daughters, Martha Jo Perkins Morrison of Tallahassee, Fla., and Exie Ruth Perkins Buffington and husband Ken of East Ellijay, Ga.; two sisters, Lorene Arrington of Kissimee, Fla. and Maevan Pittman of Tallahassee, Fla.; three brothers, W.G. Hortman of Pavo, Ga., J.C. Hortman and wife Frances of Pavo, Ga., and Myles Hortman of Moultrie; nine grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, July 21, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles DeVane and Rev. Jeff Perkins officiating. Private interment followed at the Blakely Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Morrison, Jeff Perkins, Jim Perkin Jr., Chris Miller, Bo Jackson, Mike Stewart, Andy Brokhoff and Greg Handley.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
