WALKERTOWN - Mr. Elmer T. Mabe, 84, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Stokes County to John William Thomas and Lottie Green Martin Mabe. He retired from Pilot Freight Co. and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Roberta N. Mabe, in 2006; his son, Harold Gray Mabe, in 1991; three sisters; and four brothers. Mr. Mabe is survived by four children, Elmer Wayne (Rita) Mabe, Tommy Lee (Linda) Mabe, Philip Ray (Teri) Mabe and Tammy Lynn (Richard) Collins; daughter-in-law Linda S. Mabe; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, including a very special light of his life, Ashlyn Ann Corns; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, "Dub"; and an enormous number of friends. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 24, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with the Rev. Herbert Mabe officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Jan. 23, at the funeral home, and other times at the home.
