Despite a severe rain storm, there was large attendance of friends at the funeral of Homer A. Chandler at the home in West Township last Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Merritt of Red Oak. The singing was by a male quartet, long time friends of Mr. Chandler. In attendance at the funeral was S. J. McCopl from Clarinda, E. E. Abbott, Crawford, Nebraska, Mrs. J. M. Higinbotham from Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Dalrymple from Elliott, and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Gilmore from Shenandoah. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. Mr. Chandler died Thursday, June 4, after illness of some months. He was in his 52nd year. He was born September 5, 1856, in Dane County, Wisconsin, and came to Iowa with his parents in 1866; living with his parents on a farm four miles north of Essex until he was 25 years of age, when he bought 240 acres adjoining and in 1907 bought 80 acres more. He was married March 15, 1887 to Mary Craft. Mr. Chandler is survived by Mrs. Chandler and three sons, Frank L., Homer C., and John H., and by two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Gilmore and Mrs. B. F. Allender of West Township, and one brother, Fred H. Chandler of Burksville, Virginia. He was an excellent citizen in every way and had the respect and esteem of all who knew him.
