Isabel Lugo y Mutaw was known to everyone as "Belle." She was Juan and Adelina's first child, born at Ballona (now Venice) on January 24, 1904. Belle attended Machado Elementary School at the corner of Walgrove and Zanja and completed the 10th grade at Venice High School. She was 19 years old when she married widower Edward Nelson Wilson*, 49, on July 24, 1923. Belle and Edward moved into his house at 1311 Venice Blvd and by 1925 they had a house at 411 Linnie Canal (1925 City Directory), which they still owned in the 1960's. They were living in Manhattan Beach by 1927, where they remained until about 1937 (1930 US Census; 1927, 1931, 1935, 1936 City Directories). By 1938 they were living at 2314 Glencoe Avenue in a house built on land owned by Belle's mother and just behind her mother's house on Walgrove Avenue (1938 City Directory, 1940 US Census). They never had any children. Edward died sometime before April 1950, since Belle was a widow living at 441 (formerly 411) Linnie Canal (1950 US Census). She never remarried. Belle last resided on Stewart Avenue in Santa Monica and was a frequent visitor at the home of her niece, Marie Lugo y Abelar, wife of Bernardo Casillas y Regalado. A proud Californio, Belle enjoyed sharing stories about her family and California's early rancho days. Belle was 91 when she died at her home in Santa Monica on November 22, 1995. She was buried in the Lugo family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery and shares the grave with her sister Josephina (1911-1930). Both of their graves remain unmarked. The disposition of the remains of her husband Edward are unknown.

* Edward Nelson Wilson was born in England September 25, 1873, and left Cardiff, Wales, aboard the S.S. Kinsman in 1899 (WWI Draft Registration). He was the son of Charles N. Wilson and Mary Evans (1923 CA Marriage License). From 1912-16 he was a carpenter living at 1311 Electric Avenue, now Venice Blvd (1912, 1913 City Directories). In 1914 he went to Dodge County, Minnesota, to marry (1) the widow Mrs. Anna L. (Gobel) Slingerland** (1867 or 1871, IA-June 7, 1923, CA; father NY, mother VA) on February 28. They then returned to the residence at 1311 Electric Ave. (WWI Draft Registration; 1920 US Census). He filed for U.S. citizenship at Los Angeles District Court Jan. 28, 1920 (Naturalization Record). Anna died in Venice June 7, 1923, and he married (2) Isabel Lugo y Mutaw the following month.

** She was the second wife of Teunis S. Slingerland (1823-1914).
