Ramey Kirkwood Jr. passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at age 87. He was a native of Zachary and a resident of Baton Rouge. He retired from Gulf States Utilities after 43 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with service in Europe. He is survived by his wife, Georgialene Wales Kirkwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Rusty Gilardi, of Kenner; three sisters, Minnie Jackson, Vilean Boudreaux and Vida Longmire, all of Baton Rouge; two brothers, John L. Kirkwood, of Baton Rouge, and Ira Lane Kirkwood, of Dallas; two grandchildren, Lauryn A. Gilardi and Shelly Oldner; and a great-grandchild, Trace Oldner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramey and Viola Davis Kirkwood; a son, Deryl R. Kirkwood; three sisters, Lucille McDaniel, Rachel Stafford and Susie Lowry; and two brothers, Rene Kirkwood and Haley Kirkwood. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. until chapel services at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Roger Lathan. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park following services. He was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
