The family of James & Catherine (nee McLeod) McKinnon originated from Upper Grulin, Isle Of Eigg, Inverness, Scotland.

They were enumerated in the 1851 census of Scotland in Grulin, Isale of Eigg. They emigrated to Canada in 1853. James settled his family in Kinloss Twp, Huron County. His sons Angus and Allan would share Con 5 Lot 21.

James's brother Lauchlin McKinnon was enumerated with the family in 1851 in Scotland, and also in 1861 in Canada.

Catherine McLeod McKinnon passed away between 1881 and 1891. There is no gravestone for her at St Patricks but her name is mentioned on Jame's gravestone. It is assumed she was buried here and no gravestone exists for her at this time.
