Ogden – Josie B. Carlsen returned home to her Heavenly Father on March 14, 2011. Josie was born in Smithfield, UT Sept. 8, 1925 to Charles Vernon and Venetta Bush; the fourth of seven children. She was educated in Cache Valley, UT and attended business college in Salt Lake City, UT before starting work in machine records at Hill Air Force Base.

After WWII ended, Don Carlsen, a sailor, won Josie's heart and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Sept. 15, 1948.

In 1950, Don and Josie were blessed to have their first child, David, then Irene, Roger, Paul, and Janet – making a profoundly blessed family. Josie was able to balance nurturing of five children and homemaking while carrying out key roles in the family business, and various church callings.

Josie wrote beautiful poetry, was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and did handy-work of all kinds. Singing was another one of her many gifts that she shared generously during her lifetime.

Travel was one of Josie's goals, so when the opportunity came up in 1971, she and Don took a trip around the world with a group of Rotary Club members. After retirement, Don and Josie served a LDS mission in Lansing, MI. And, for many years, they enjoyed traveling within the US and several other countries.

Josie is survived by her husband, Don Carlsen; son David (Fawn) GA, daughter Irene (John) MT, son Roger (Cindy) AZ, son Paul (Jan) UT, daughter Janet (Charles) MT; sister Nona Parsons (Bill deceased) UT, brother Gary Bush (Louise) UT, brother Robert Bush (Raylene) GA. Josie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and their spouses, Lois Davis (Mat), Alta Taylor (Sherm), and Beatrice Smith (Lorin).

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care provided during Josie's stay at Wasatch Care Center in Ogden. The Wasatch residents and staff are considered extended family; also the Vista Care Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday, March 18th from 6 – 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Liberty City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be make to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
