Marcelle Simmons, beloved wife, mother and grandmother rejoiced in her heavenly homecoming on March 14, 2011 in Athens.

She was born August 28, 1925 in Athens to the late Jimmie and Hollie Tanner Pinkerton.

Following graduation from Athens High School in 1942, Marcelle completed Draughn's Business College. She married the love of her life, Thomas Simmons on September 14, 1948 in Athens. Known affectionately as Moppie, she and Thomas were blessed with two sons Gary Thomas Simmons and William David Simmons. Moppie served for over 43 years as legal secretary including 20 years of devoted service for the Honorable U S Federal District Judge William Wayne Justice. She was a talented seamstress, a wonderful and innovative cook, a skillful bridge player and a whiz at dominoes. A long time member of First United Methodist Church, Moppie faithfully attended church and often taught her Sunday school class. Moppie was a Texas Democrat and paid close attention to state and national politics. She loved her God, her family and her friends. She lived her life according to the precepts of Proverbs 31:26-29: " She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness; her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all."

Survivors include her devoted husband of 62 years, Thomas Simmons, Athens; son Gary Simmons and wife Pam, Dallas; daughter in law Deborah Simmons, Dallas; sister Nell Regester, Tyler; granddaughters Sheradon Robbins, Sarah Simmons, both of Dallas; numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son David who guided her into God's arms, sisters Beatrice Johnson, Juanice Crawford and JoAnn Crist.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Nichols, Judge Jack Holland, Charles McMurray, David Finch, Jack Meredith, David Asire, Lester Kinabrew, Paul Mackey.

A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Calhoun and Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating.
A private burial at Oaklawn Memorial Park will precede the service.
