Clara Cornell (Nell) Pinkerton Regester(Mama Nell)

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and he rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Nell Regester, much loved - mom, grandmother, aunt, friend, and teacher (at times preacher), joined her heavenly Father on Sunday, October 11, 2015 in Tyler. She was born in Athens, Texas on August 25, 1929 to the late, James L. (Jimmie) and Mary Holland (Hollie) Tanner Pinkerton. Following graduation from high school in 1946, she obtained her teaching degree from East Texas State College, Commerce in 1949. She married John Reagan Regester on December 29, 1950. They were married for over 56 years at the time of his death in November of 2006. They had five children, with 3 of those children born in Frankfurt, Germany, where John was stationed with the USAF. The first and last born were jokingly referred to as “Texas-made”.
During her life, she taught public school in San Antonio, Lancaster and culminating the majority of her teaching
years in Athens. She loved to teach English and Literature, and was still “correcting” one’s speech and/or verb usage, no matter who you were. There were many times on a Sunday morning that the preacher would be about to say something and stop and search out mom and say “Mrs. Regester, I hope I’m going to say this properly, or did I say that right”. He would make his statement and she would either shake her head yes or no. With that being said, her love of teaching showed, and she touched many lives. Out of the classroom, she loved another type of teaching. And that is studying and teaching the Word of God. Until just a very short time ago, she was still studying her lessons and teaching Sunday school at her church.
After retiring in 1986, she and John traveled across the country in their RV. She loved to travel and fellowship with their “traveling family”. In 2002, they stopped traveling and Tyler became home. After being a member of the First Baptist Church in Athens for most of her life, Nell joined Westwood Baptist Church in Tyler where she became respected as one of their most sought after teachers. During her years at Westwood, she taught the “golden-age” level, but there were many that came to hear her no matter how old they were. She had a way of making everything interesting and left one yearning for more. She dearly loved her church family in Tyler.
Preceding her in death, were her parents, her beloved husband and four sisters-Beatrice Johnson, Juanice Crawford, Marcelle Simmons and JoAnn Crist. Also preceding her were a grandson, Gene Darrell Boone and a granddaughter-in-law, Dana Regester.
She is survived by 3 sons- John Reagan (Reggie) Regester II, of Yazoo, Mississippi, James Howard Regester, Athens, Monte Keith and Charlotte Regester, Athens, 2 daughters- Patricia Ann and Mack Cates, Athens, and Mary Janet and Dan Boone of Tyler, Texas.

Known as Mama Nell to her 11 grandchildren (and others), survivors include:
Kendra (who gave Mama Nell her name) and Daniel Tobin of Rowlett, Amy and Mark Poland of Rowlett, Matthew and Leslie Regester of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also, Jim Regester of Tyler, Jason and Katie Regester of Tyler, Brian Boone of Dallas, Janda and Rick Gragg, Tyler, Jerry and Misty Boone, Tyler, Kristi and John Bassinder, Tyler, Clint Boone, Tyler and Keith Regester of Athens.
She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving also are her forever family, Patti Regester of Tyler and Nancy Carver of Kaufman.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at TMF Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital for their compassion and tenderness while caring for our mother in her last days. You will never know how much easier you made it for us children. God bless you.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday evening from 6-7:30 at Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home. Service is set for Thursday at 10 am in the Chapel at Carroll and Lehr with Rev. Ron Moore and Tom Crawford of Westwood Baptist Church, Tyler officiating.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
