Bessie Bird Burton Spanswick, 93, of the John Knox Village, Lee's Summit, MO, passed away June 16, 2001, at the health care center. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Burton Cemetery, Higbee, MO.
Mrs. Spanswick was born August 16, 1907, in Higbee, MO, to Arthur T. and Lizzie Pyle Burton. She was an elementary school teacher and taught in schools in Moberly, Hamilton, Huntsville, and North Kansas City, MO, and the Japanese Relocation Camp, Tulle Lake, CA. She was an avid Bridge player and she also taught the game at the Kansas City Recreation Dept. She was a member of the DAR and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a niece, Chris Ann Bower and her husband, Gene; great-nieces and nephews, Randy Kelly, Vic Magruder, Brent Gutekunst, and Gigi White.
