Martha was captured by Indians in Dec 1787. She was about 14 years old. She was released and returned in 1790. The family claimed that she was too hard to control so the Indians returned her. Edd Marks emailed that his research indicates that Martha had a younger sister that was named Martha after it was thought the first Martha was dead. When the first Martha returned the second Martha was renamed Mercy(pronounced Massie) and she married Uriah Gandee.
