Funeral Rites Held For Preston Budge


Preston Morgan Budge, 72, 595 Woodland circle, Bountiful, died Monday, Nov. 17 in a Salt Lake Lake hospital of a heart aliment.

Mr. Budge was born Nov. 25, 1986 in Paris, Idaho, son of Arthur and Fanny Elizabeth Morgan Budge. He was married to Irene Emma Holmes in Boise, Idaho Aug. 7, 1917. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Mr. Budge lived in Paris, Idaho for three years, and since that time in Utah. He was a newspaper printer. He worked on the Box Elder Journal for six years in Brigham City; was Supt. of Inland Printing at Kaysville three years; worked for the Ogden Standard Examiner one year, and 25 years with the Salt Lake Tribune in the composing room as linotype operator and proof reader.

He was a member of the Salt Lake Men's Gardening Club; served as president of Bonneview Garden Club for two years; was a member of the Utah Rose Society, and former member of Utah Rainbow Society. He was also a member of International Typographical Union.

Mr. Budge served with the 2nd Idaho Infantry on the Mexican border during 1916. When World War I was declared in April 1917, Idaho Infantry was sent to Eastern Military Post for overseas assignment. He served with the 66th Field Artillery Brigade at Chatteau Thierry, at St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne, later with the Army of Occupation in Germany.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 20, at 12 noon in the Lindquist Bountiful Chapel, with Bishop Renn Madsen of Bountiful 14th Ward officiating.

Family prayer was given by Richard D. Shea, Sr. and prelude and postlude music was by Ruth Yancy. Opening prayer was given by Marvin Floyd Clark and Martin Keddington sang "The Lord's Prayer' accompanied by Lucille Smart.

Speakers were Bp. Madsen, Walter Keller and Richard D. Shea, Jr., Mr. Keddington then sang "Lead Me All the Way' and was accompanied by Lucille Smart. The closing prayer was by William H. Call and the grave was dedicated by Richard D. Shea, Jr. Interment was in the Bountiful Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Richard j. Hicks, Ted R. Ezell. Dr. Bruce B. Clark, Paul Judd Hixson. Ronald W. Hixson, and Richard D. Shea, Jr. Members of the 14th Ward Relief Society were in charge of the flowers and military honors were given by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his widow; son and daughters, Brent H. Budge, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Richard (Nondus) Shea, Bountiful; Mrs. Richard J. (Dorothy) Hicks, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Ted R. (Arlene) Ezell, Fremont, Calif.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Brothers, Col. (Ret) Vernon M. Budge, El Paso, Texas; Donald M. Budge, Murray; Mrs. J.R. (Ellen) Pugmire, Logan; Mrs. George (Nora) Cole, El Paso, Texas;, and Mrs. Francis M. (Eliza) Bowen, Missoula, Mont.
