My father's favorite female cousin. Her obituary:AvaLee Simmons, 81, of Kansas City, MO passed away Saturday, July 26 at St. Joseph Health Center. Visitation will be 6-8pm Tuesday, July 29th, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes. Graveside services will be 10am, Wednesday, July 30th at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Mrs. Simmons was born February 12, 1927 in West Plains, MO. She moved to be with her family to Kansas City in 1943. She was employed by Western Union for 18 years. She married Bob Simmons in 1960 and became a homemaker after her daughter was born. She was preceded in death by her father, John H. Stein, mother, Hazel Stein and brother J.D. Stein. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bob Simmons of the home; daughter Kandace (Kandy); son-in-law Wayne and her most precious pride and joy, her twin grandsons, Spencer and Sean Tupstra, all of Grandview, MO. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Cancer Society , Crossroads Hospice or the charity of choice. The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Paula Messmore, Dr. Kelly Pendergrass, the entire staff of the Kansas City Cancer Center and Crossroads Hospice. Mrs. Simmons wouldn't have had the last 2 years of life with family and ability to pass by her wishes. Thanks to all who made everything possible. Published in the Kansas City Star on 7/27/2008
