421ST ROCKET FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION

Clarence E. Emley, resident of Campbell, born Sept. 8, 1919, Peabody, Kansas.
Died May 27, 2010, Campbell, CA. 90 years of age. Resident of Santa Clara County
since 1932. Clarence leaves behind a large extended family in Sacramento, San
Jose and throughout California and the western US. He was preceded in death by
his loving wife, Barbara Hunt Emley, in 1985. A veteran of WWII, he enlisted in
the US Army in Sept. 1941. He graduated UC Davis School of Field Artillery in
1943 and went on to become the First Sergeant of the 421st Rocket Artillery
Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He participated in several campaigns in the
Pacific, ending in the assault on Okinawa. Upon his return in 1946, he went into
business with his father, Earl and brothers, Merle and Melvin as building
contractors in Santa Clara Valley. He held many building related jobs throughout
his career and retired at the age of 70 as a building inspector. He was an avid
traveler and fisherman. In his own words, he "lived a full, satisfying and long
life." A Memorial service will be held at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga on June
19, at 12:00. Friends and family are invited to say goodbye to yet another
member of the greatest generation.
