Mary Harris was born near Richmond,
Indiana, December 8, 1840 and departed from this life May 2, 1916, age seventy-five years, four months and twenty-five days. At the age of six years her father’s family moved to Henry county, Iowa, and later the deceased located in Marshall county, of the same state. She was married at the age of twenty-two to Gideon Hockett. To this union twelve children were born, three of whom preceded their mother to the Better World. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, nine children, thirty-two grandchildren. She was a kind and loving wife and mother. For many years she was a member of the Friends church, remaining steadfast to the end.
For eight years she had been a patient, helpless invalid, carefully attended by her faithful husband.
The interment was made in the Kanorado cemetery Thursday of last week, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. B. M. Peterson.
