Clyde was born on June 3, 1920 in Hurdland, Missouri to Joseph and Maude Kiger Burrus. He married Lois Marjorie Trusler on May 29, 1948 in Silvis.
Clyde graduated from Baring High School. He was a decorated WWII Veteran with the Army Air Corps having received two bronze stars. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 9th Fighter Squad that flew over Japan. He was employed with Illinois Bell for 30 years. Clyde was a charter member of Aldersgate Methodist Church where he was active as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He was also active with the men's group where he served many dinners and helped with Meals On Wheels. Since 1930 he was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball.
