Funeral services for Boyd Oliver Burrus, 73, of Baring, were held Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 31, 1979) at 2 o'clock in Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina. The Rev. Archie Cooper of Kirksville, conducted the services. Burial was in the Greensburg Cemetery.
Mr. Burrus died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon (Jan. 28, 1979) at his home.
Born Oct. 27, 1905, in Scotland County, he was the son of Joseph and Maude Evelyn Kigar Burrus. On June 9, 1935, at Novelty, he married Ethlyn Leatha Mitchell who survives. Also surviving are one son, Francis Elwood Burrus of Quincy, Ill.; two grandsons; one sister, Mrs. William (Clara) Huffaker of Cleburne, Tex.; and four brothers, Dan Burrus of Memphis, Harold Burrus of Joliet, Ill., Clyde Burrus of Moline, Ill. and Zachary Burrus of Kirksville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Artie Mitten.
Mr. Burrus had been employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 48 years before his retirement. Most of his life had been spent in Knox County and he had lived in Baring for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Baring Community Church and Greensburg Lodge No. 414, A. F. & A. M.
Bearers were Glennon Dromey, Virgil Dromey, William Burrus, Alan D. Pinson, James Scott and Elmer Hunsaker.
