Ned was a son of John and Ann Stephens. He was the brother of: Joseph, John, Mary, Sophia, Elizabeth, Sarah A., Thomas and Samuel. He was married to Margaret Richards on Januray 26, 1873 in Hazel Green, Grant County, Wisconsin. They lived for some time in Hazel Green where Ned worked in the lead mines. In the spring of 1881 they moved to Plymouth County, Iowa and farmed one of the Fisher farms in Lincoln township until about five years before his death when they moved to the Hinton area. They had the following children: Maud, Johnnie, Nettie, Hester, Edward H. and Oscar.
