JAMES DeVORE

James Allen DeVore, 80, of Chariton, was born April 27, 1921, in Green City, Mo., to Purley Columbus and Erma Stickler DeVore. He died at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton on June 26, 2001.

Mr. DeVore received a Bachelor of Science degree from N.E. Missouri State and a Master of Arts degree from Iowa State University. He served in the Army during WW II. Upon returning home he made his home in Chariton until his death.

He taught Industrial Arts at Chariton High School from 1946 until 1952 and was an owner of Lyman and DeVore Plumbing and Heating until retirement in 1986. Mr. DeVore was active in community activities as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Chariton Country Club, First Presbyterian Church and he was on the Board of Directors of the Hawkeye Bank.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lanora; daughter, Barbara DeVore-Klein and husband, Paul of St. Louis; son, Jim and wife, Karen of Knoxville; brother, Gerald, of Reno, Nevada; five grandchildren, Brady Pittenger, Jeffery Pittenger and wife Carrie, Jennifer DeVore, Heather DeVore, Stephanie DeVore, and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Pittenger.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Kerns officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
