A joint funeral service was held for Mr and Mrs Ben Richardson on Thursday, March 25, 1965 at 2:00 pm, from the Wolfe Funeral Home with the Rev Alston Hall officiating. The organist Mrs Mabel Dunn accompanied Mrs Carolyn Harris in the following vocal selections, "Going Down the Valley," and "Beyond the Sunset." Flowerbearers were Mrs Shirley Ross and Mrs Florence Loghry.

Casketbearers for Mrs Richardson were Cecil Newberg, Paul Larson, Harold McCue, Earl Petty, Lester Loghry and Orville Anderson. Those who served as casketbearers for Mr Richardson included William Dumler, Gordon Currin, Cecil McCuen, Charlie Fidler, Ray Clark and Fred Ross.

Interment was in Fairview cemetery.

Mattie Bell Richardson, daughter of Sara and Jess Bennett, was born December 15, 1887, south of Bethany, Missouri in Harrison Co., and passed away March 20, 1965 at University hospital in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 77 years.

Ben Richardson, son of Martha and John Richardson, was born February 3, 1883, in Osceola, Iowa of Clark County, and passed away March 23, 1965 in the Cottage Red Home in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 82 years.

Mattie spent her early years in Missouri and then moved to Iowa with her family and has lived in and around Villisca the remaining years of her life. As a girl she joined the Cat Creek Methodist church near Bethany, Missouri but when she lived in Villisca she attended the Advent Christian church. Mr Richardson spent a portion of his life in Missouri but has lived most of his life in or near Montgomery County, Iowa.

They were united in marriage on March 24, 1904, and to this union were born seven children: Edith Wasson of Villisca, Iowa, Earl Richardson of Storm Lake, Iowa, Beulah Simpson of Macksburg, Iowa, Mildred Hendry of Villisca, Iowa, Ben Richardson Jr., of Carpenter, Iowa and one son Ray and one daughter Marie who are now deceased.

Mrs Richardson was preceded in death by these two children by her father and mother, by ten brothers, four sisters, and one grandson Wayne Richardson. Mr Richardson was also preceded in death by his two children and the one grandson. He was also preceded in death by his parents, by six brothers and one sister.

Together they leave to mourn them surviving children, three sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, 26 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to these, Mr Richardson is survived by four brothers: Roy Richardson of Creston, Iowa, George Richardson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jess Richardson of Windon, Minnesota, and Jim Richardson of Grass Creek, Wyoming as well as one sister Gertie Nelson of Corning, Iowa.
