Henry moved with his parents to Tobinsport, Indiana when he was 13 years old. Henry married Mary "Polly" Sims on April 15, 1818, in Perry County, Indiana. Mary was the daughter of Barnard Sims.

Following is a list of their children and spouces: Jacob m Catherine Polk; Nancy m Andrew Leaf; John m Lucy Hix; Henry (1825-1825); Washington m Sarah Jane Casey; Uriah m Susan Hyde; Matilda m John Polk; Barnard (1834-1836); Arad m Frances Tanner; William m Frances Finch; Francis m Elizabeth Kinder and Elizabeth Shrode.

Henry and Mary were farmers in Tobin Township, Perry County all of their lives together. They had 11 children and also raised two grandchildren. After Matilda Weatherholt Polke died they took in Nancy Polk when she was only 1 year old to raise. Alva Weatherholt, son of Jacob Weatherholt was brought into the family after his parents separated and his father, Jacob died at Corinth, Mississippi during the Civil War.

Both Henry and Mary are buried in the Upper Cemetery at Tobinsport.
