RALEIGH, NC: Alexander R. Russell, Jr. died peacefully Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Oaks at Mayview. He was born on May 10, 1924 in Raleigh to the late Daisy Barden and Alexander Richardson Russell, Sr. In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Barden Russell.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lottie Williams Russell, two daughters, Jane Brown of Raleigh and Lynn Weaver (Dave) of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Jennifer Brown Chin (Justin)and Alex and Henry Weaver; one great-grandson, Mason Alexander Chin.

Alex attended Hugh Morson and Needham Broughton High Schools, and retired as Supervisor of the Instrumentation Shop in the Engineering Department at NC State University in 1985.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 27, at 2:00pm at Westover United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church prior to the service from 12:30-2:00pm.

The family is deeply grateful for the wonderful care Alex received from the staff at the Oaks at Mayview. They are also grateful for the loving care and support provided by his Hospice Care Team.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of Westover United Methodist Church, 300 Powell Drive, Raleigh 27606 or to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh 27607.
