Bertha Blake was the daughter of Abraham S. Blake, one of Mont's. earliest pioneers. Her mother was Mary Use Blake, and Indian girl who was raised by John & Nancy Owen, at Fort Owen in Stevensville, MT., and married A.S. Blake in 1869. Bertha married Martin Rowan, a logging contractor, in 1905 and they raised eight children on their farm in Victor. Bertha was employed as a cook for schools in the Bitterroot Valley & later for the Univ. of MT in Missoula.
