The grave monument for John and Caroline Couch stands today at River View Cemetery. Designed by 19th Century Portland stone-cutter William Young, it originally resided in the east side of the Willamette River at Lone Fir Cemetery.

Couch's richly decorated epitaph displays much symbolism starting with a crowning chain with a broken link representing his own death in the Couch family. Below the chain resides a Masonic keystone ordaining his membership among the Order of Ancient.
