Washington Lawrence Barnett was the son of John Franklin and Nancy Briscoe Barnett; the husband of Frances Catherine Lyons Barnett; and the father of Emily B., Adelia Ann, Sarah Josephine, Algin A., Julian Lafayette, Lawrence J. (Joe), Frances Eda (Fannie), Tennie B., and Nettie Barnett.

W. L. Barnett was a descendant of Revolutionary War veterans Nathan Barnett and his son, Capt. John Barnett. Their names appear on the Kettle Creek Battlefield Monument, Georgia.

The burial site for W. L. and his wife, according to his obituary, was in the Llano Cemetery in Llano County, Texas.
