LUCILE R.

BROOKS-STACEY-THARP

1921-2011

Lucile went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. She was 89 years old.

Lucile was born on December 1, 1921 to William T. and Dora Russell in Frisco City, AL, where she lived until 1941 when she married and moved to Pensacola, FL and then resided the remainder of her life.

Lucile was married to Kenneth "Leon" Brooks, Sr. for 31 years until he passed away in 1970. She and Leon were blessed with two children, Kenneth and Mary Sue. She later married, the second love of her life, Cecil "Pete" Stacey, and was married to him 28 years until he passed away in 1998. She married Barney Tharp in 1999 and was married to him almost 10 years when he passed away in 2009. Although each marriage was in different seasons of her life, she was a very loving and devoted wife to each of them.

Lucile had a musical gift in singing hymns and playing the piano without a single piano or music lesson. She blessed many that heard her sing and play her favorite hymn, "Amazing Grace".

Lucile retired in the banking business from Barnett Bank as a Manager of Installment loans and later, a second retirement, from the Pensacola L&N Credit Union. She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren with all her heart. Cooking was also a passion in her earlier years and was known by many for her baked beans made with a 'personal touch'.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth L. Brooks, Jr. (Linda); daughter, Mary Sue Gainey; two step-children Richard Stacey and Mickey Stacey (Cecil Stacey); three grandchildren, Glenn Brooks,(Robin) Bennie Brooks (Leigh), and Melissa Woodward (Chris); and five great-grandchildren, "Little" Glenn and Dax Brooks, Austin and Parker Brooks, and Ashley Woodward; three sisters, Mary Alice Butler of Nashville, TN, Barbara "Babs" Bultemeyer (Rollie) of Gulf Shores, AL and Margaret Stewart of Pensacola, FL; and several loving and caring nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Dora Russell; her brothers Glenn and John Thomas Russell, and her spouses, Kenneth L. Brooks, Sr., Cecil Stacey and Barney Tharp.

Special thanks to Lucile's wonderful friends, Derly, Juanita, Pat, and Janet at Pensacola L&N Credit Union, for their continued compassion and friendship, even after she retired. Special thanks also to Creekside Senior Village Staff, caregivers, and Emerald Coast Hospice for their wonderful care during her illness and final days.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 until a Celebration of Her Life at 2:00 p.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel on Airport Boulevard, with Pastor Joe McNaulty officiating. Music will be performed by her niece, Ruthie Killingsworth and husband Dale Killingsworth to include her favorite hymn "Amazing Grace". Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

The active pallbearers will be Glenn & Bennie Brooks (grandsons), Roger Wallace, (loving and caring nephew), Chris Woodward (granddaughter's husband) & Richard Stacey (step-son). HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
