WALTER DAVIS SLAYTON

Walter was born to Charles Henry and Eliza Caroline Rippy Slaton-Slayton October 37,1857 in Westmoreland, Sumner, Tennessee. He was the first born of five children.

His mother died May 16,1872 and his father married Nancy A. (Nanie) Robinson-Robertson August 4, 1872, who my dad said was a wonderful, caring lady. At the age of 18 she became the mother of five children ranging from the age of 15 years to 9 months. Thier union added two more sons to the family. They moved to Texas and were found in the Dallas, Texas Census by 1880.

Walter's first marriage was to Amanda Rippy, February 9, 1876 in Sumner, Tennessee. She did not come to Texas, so they must have divorced. Do not know if there were any children.

He married second, Mary Isabelle Eubanks about 1884 in Texas. Two children were born to this union, Walter Eugene and Lena Maude. Walter Eugene Slayton married Laura May Sheffield in 1907, divorced in 1908. He died February 12, 1912, murdered by an ex-husband of Fay Woodward, his wife to be. He was to marry the very next day and had the marriage licences in his pocket when he was killed. He died in downtown Fort Worth at the age of 27 years old.
His daughter Lena maried Wilson Birchfiel in 1907 and they had one daughter. Lena died March 31, 1910 from an ovarian pregency.

Walter Davis died in Huntsville, Texas, June 30, 1893, at the age of 35 years. His burial is unknown, so I am placing him by his half-brother, Charles Sanders Slayton, buried in Turner Cemetery, Wood County, Texas until I can find his burial place. *There is a grave with a gravemarker in the Turner Cemetery that has no first name or dates showing on it, only has the Slayton name left showing on the gravestone. This could be his burial place, but not sure. I think his father brought him back to Wood County to bury him.

Walter Davis was preceeded in death by his mother, Eliza Caroline Rippy Slayton.

Walter is survived by his father, Charles Henry and step-mother Nanie Slayton. Son, Eugene Slayton; daughter Lena Maude Slayton of Fort Worth. Four brothers, Henry Elvis Slayton,(Sarah) of Fort Worth; John Sanders Slayton; Champ Terry Slayton; Charlie Walker Slayton and sister, Mary Caldonia Slayton Coe,(Willard) all of Wood County, Texas.
