Don was a happy baby and an ambitious little boy. He helped take care of animals as a young boy and was always anxious to get his chores done. He attended schools in Koosharem until the completion of his Sophmore Year, at which time the school district required the students to finish high school in Monroe, Richfield, or Salina. He chose to go to Richfield graduating in 1960.

After graduation, he went to Idaho to work for his Uncle Herbert Torgerson. Upon his return in 1962, he entered the U.S Navy stationed in San Diego, California, serving 2 years and then was transferred to Hawaii.

Don returned home and went to work in Richfield, driving a delivery truck, this is where he met and married Merridee Davis in August 1965. They lived in a small house next door to Aunt Lucile Kramer, and he began working for Christys Grocery Store as a meat cutter. He moved his family a few times during the next few years and finally made the last move to Nevada. Here he worked in the mining industry until 1982 and then he bought a freight company. Together, with his wife Merridee, they had a successful life with the freight business and also a floral shop. Don made many friends in Battle Mountain and helped a lot of people. He also had a small gravel delivery business. They pruchased 40 acres of land south east of Battle Mountain where he built his home and corrals, barns,and pens. He planted over 100 trees and raised pigs,cattle, goats, horses, and even mules.
