Son of Frank A. Cadagin and Gertrude M. (O'Leary) Cadagin. Father, grandfather and brother. Richard was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1954 to 1962. In 1969, he was elected to the Sangamon County Board. He was apppointed associate circuit judge in 1970, elected circuit judge in 1978 and retained in 1984 and 1990. In 1992 and 1993, he was chief circuit judge. He retired in July 1995. He was a member and past president of the American Business Club, member and past president of the Sangamon County Bar Association, member and past president of Peter F. Rossiter Sons and Daughters of Erin, a member of VFW No. 755 and a member of Cathedral Parish.
