John Newton Roberson was born in Carrollton, Carroll, Georgia. He enlisted in the 56th GA Infantry. He was at the Siege of Vicksburg. When the Northern Army captured the city, he went to a POW Camp in Kentucky. Later he was exchanged. After the war he joined the Mormon Church and went to Colorado where he worked on the railroad in Durango. Later he moved to Utah. He passed away 26 July 1915 in Cullman Alabama while visiting relatives. He was buried in Bushy Creek Cemetery.
