Born December 23, 1954, in Summerton, he was a son of the late John Thomas and the late Lillian Bell Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Greeleyville High School, and he attended The Citadel where he was a fullback on the football team.
He was retired from Timber Procurement with Walterboro Veneer and was involved with many wood organizations. He was a pioneer of the South Carolina Republican Party serving as a member of the Executive Committee in the 1960's. He later served on the Executive Committee for Colleton County.
Mr. Thomas was a former member of the Elk's Lodge in Walterboro, was a former board member for Hebron Colony, and a member of Greeleyville Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon.
He will be best remembered by his family and friends as a truly gifted story teller and a consumate entertainer at parties and gatherings.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Bobby Thomas and wife Kathryn of Folly Beach and Ellison Thomas and wife Janan of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Cindy Thomas of Roswell, GA and Debbie Price and husband Wayne of Florence; a sister, Janice Spann of Sumter; a brother, Billy Thomas and wife Connie of Kingstree; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Thomas; and a sister, Miriam Thomas.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., February 20, 2011, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Grover Mixon officiating. Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Greeleyville.
