Elsie Orpha Hays Murphy Brown

Elsie Orpha Hays was born to James and Emma Hays on October 18, 1892, at their family home sough of Alton, Kansas. She departed this live, June 25, 1948, at the home of her son in Manhattan, Kansas, being 55 years, eight months and seven days of age.
Being one of a large family, she grew up enjoying their fellowship, sharing their joys and trials that come to children of early pioneer families. She attend school and church at Pleasant Plain.
On January 4, 1912, she was married to Euclid T. Murphy, and moved to Manhattan. To this union four children were born; Donald Clarkson and Virgil Leroy of Manhattan; Roberta Maxine Headman of Cleburne, Kansas; and Elsie Pauline Conwell, of Alma, Kansas.
On March 22, 1937, she was married to Clyde Brown and moved to Cleburne, where she was residing at the time of her death.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Manhattan.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, the four children, and 12 grandchildren. She also leaves four brothers, Paul of Neosho, Missouri; Otto, of Alton; Victor, of Natoma; and Claude, of Woodston; and four sisters; Mrs Minnie Walker, of Stockton; Miss Goldie Strutt, and Mrs Vera Haines, of Woodston; and Mrs Ruby Musgrove, of Ashland; also two half brothers and three half sisters; Ed Hays, of Oakley; Will Hays, of Beloit; Mrs Nellie Hammond, of Albia, Iowa; Mrs Effie Hammond, of Winterset, Iowa; Mrs Laura Wildrix, of Stockton; also one aunt, Mrs Anna Durham, of Paradise; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Service were held at the Chalk Mound Friends Church, at Woodston, on Sunday, June 27, with Rev. Edwin Adkinson, the pastor in charge. Miss Inez Strutt rendered the vocal solos, accompanied by Mrs Marvin McReynolds at the piano. The pall bearers wee were nephews, and were Paul Hays, Carl Hays, Robert Musgrove, Junior Palmer, Glen Walker and James Strutt. She was laid to rest in the Pleasant Plain cemetery.
