Clara Myrtle Hays

Clara Myrtle Hays, daughter of James M. and Emma Hays was born May 3, 1882, in Mt. Ayr Township, Osborn County, Kansas; and departed this life at Wilcox, Nebraska, January 3, 1942 being 59 years and 8 months of age. She was one of a pair of twins, the other being a girl who died in infancy. She grew to womanhood in the community in which she was born. Having been among those unfortunate ones in entering this life a cripple she did not get to attend public school much. Yet she did not permit this to be a handicap to her as she kept house for several years for her two brothers, Victor and Walter, living south of the Chalk Mound Church.
Clara loved the church and its work and attended whenever possible. She loved to do things for others, especially the children in the families of brothers and sisters.
For the past few years she has made her home with Oren and Etta Thornberry, who gave her unusually good care.
Funeral services were held January 7th at the Chalk Mound Church at 1:30 with Rev. Marion Lyons in charge. Pall bearers were Glen Walker, Bill Bedore, Duane Haines, Paul Hays, George Palmer and Howard Covert.
