Jacob F Alt Died Thursday evening at the age of 69 years. He was a son of Michael Alt and Martha Johnson Alt and was born and reared in Smoke Hole, Pendleton county. He is survived by his wife Annie C. (Kimble) Alt,eight sons, five daughters, and a brother, W. Riley Alt, who is superintendent of the Sabbath School in Smoke Hole. For many years Mr. Alt and his son Harry, worked in the lumber woods in Tucker and Randolph counties and they were so successful that they organized a firm of their own, known as J. F. Alt & Sons, and at the time of his death he left an estate of about $40,000 For about three years, Mr. Alt had been partially paralyzed but was found in his store each day where he sat in a large chair and directed the work in a business-like manner. He will be sadly missed by all who were associated with him. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 20, at the M. E. Church South at Upper Tract by his pastor, the Rev. Nicholas, the burial rites being held by the Upper Tract Lodge of Odd Fellows of which he was a member. The high esteem with which he was held was manifested by the large crowd which assembled to pay their last sad tribute of respect to his memory. Two very large truck loads of folks besides the cars came from the Smoke Hole where he had been so long and favorably known.
