Isaac married Rachel Combs, on Feb 3, 1842. They lived near Quicksand Creek, where he ran a lumber mill. Isaac and Rachel had twelve children. They also took in several orphan children and raised them, including James Combs and Polly Angell. They also took in Alexander Lee Bryant, who had run away from home, sometime before 1850. Alexander first changed his last name to "Bryant-Back," but he later just used the last name of "Back." He even married into the Back family.

Isaac and Rachel had 12 children: Mary Anne "Polly" (b. 2-14-1843); Catherine (b. 12-14-1844); Levisa (b. 7-3-1847); Henry D. (b. 3-7-1849); John C. (b. 11-4-1851); Minerva Jane (b. 1-20-1855); Matthew Elliott (b. 10-10-1856); William James (b. 10-31-1858); Fanny Evaline (b. 11-27-1860); Susannah (b. 1-11-1863); Joseph Lee (b. 5-14-1865); and Sarah (b. 6-15-1866).

Rachel died in 1866.

A few years after Rachel died, Isaac married Nancy Coldiron, on May 6, 1871. She was born on June 7, 1850, the daughter of George Coldiron and Priscilla Miller.

Isaac and Nancy had two children: Greenberry (b. 2-16-1872); and Cora (b. 3-8-1874).

Isaac was buried next to his first wife, Rachel Combs.
