Edith Ray Larkin, daughter of George and Susie Newberry Breckenridge, was born January 2, 1935 in Geridge, Arkansas and departed this life on October 29, 2016 in Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-one years, nine months and twenty-seven days.
She was united in marriage to Paul Henry Larkin and to this union five children were born. She later married Ralph Edgar “Ed” Larkin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed, daughter, Linda Brown, two grandsons, David Larkin and Charles Ray Sanders, Jr. and several siblings.
Edith is survived by a son, Randy Larkin, Sr. and wife, Cathy of Farmington, Arkansas; three daughters, Paula Bailey and husband, Rick of Bentonville, Arkansas, Karen Augustine and Diane Pierce both of Rogersville, Missouri; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
She was born in Arkansas and raised in Blocker, Oklahoma and attended schools in that area where she completed 8th grade. Her family traveled across the United States so her father could provide for the family. He worked any jobs that he could find including picking cotton and peanuts in California.
Edith was always very active in her children’s lives where she participated in various school and community activities and functions. There was always a yard full of children at her home and Edith welcomed them without reservation and made lunch for all of them.
After Ed’s death, she pursued her GED and completed 2 years of education and training for LPN certification. She worked in hospitals, nursing homes and patients’ homes in Oklahoma, Florida and Missouri. Edith retired 3 times but due to her passion of helping people she was drawn back to work.
Edith had many hobbies, she did counted cross stitch, embroidery, plastic canvas, quilts and sewing. She also enjoyed, cooking, baking, candy making, jigsaw puzzles, reading and puzzle books.
Edith made a profession of faith in Christ many years ago and was a member of Seymour Holiness Church.
She loved the Lord, her family and making lists. Her nurturing extended beyond her family but also to various family pets, including Amy and Bear. Her enormous love of Amy shined through so much that the doctor requested Amy visit Edith in the hospital. Her grandson was able to capture these precious moments on video.
Heaven gained a beautiful Angel on October 29, 2016. There’s an empty place in her children’s lives that will be filled once the family is reunited in Glory.
