Sgt. Maurice Henry Missing in Action In European Area


Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Henry of Ravenwood received word today from the War Department that their son, Tech. Sgt. Maurice V. Henry, engineer gunner in the army air corps, had been missing in action over European territory since November 26. It was on this date that the Eighth air forces struck in Northwest Germany. Sgt. Henry was inducted into service June 8, 1942, and received his basic training at the Harlington, Tex., aerial gunnery school. He received his silver wings and sergeant rating March 13. Sgt. Henry received his aerial mechanic training at the Lincoln, Neb., air base. Besides his parents, he has a wife, who resides in Maryville with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Smith; three brothers, Norvil Henry, of the Navy air corps, who is stationed in Florida; and Eldon and L. J. Henry, Ravenwood, and one sister, Mrs. Gerald West, Maryville. Maurice "Red" Henry was married only once on 25 Oct 1936, in Atchison, Atchison Co., Kansas to Miss Ruth M. Bryant.


Red never married Blanch Smith, he may have had a "Out-of-Wedlock" child Maralyn J. Smith, but it was never proven, and the family never recognized her.
