Services will be Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM at New Lima Auditorium with Dr. Wilma E. Cooper, officiating and interment following in New Lima Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Joe attended Douglas School. He served in the US Navy and received a honorable discharge. Joe married Thelma Kemp on January 18, 1967. She survives him of the home.
Joe worked for the City of Oklahoma City with the Street Department, City of Wewoka with the Street Department, Dowell, as a Oil Field Worker and New Lima Schools as Custodian. Joe loved fishing, riding horses, rodeo and spending time with grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Island and wife Shawn of Wewoka, OK, Steven Island of Oklahoma City, OK, Kenneth Island of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kerry Island of California; two daughters, Josephine Island of Tulsa, OK, Tamara Island of California; two brothers, Oscar Island Sr. of Oklahoma City and Lefuss Island of Wewoka, OK; three sisters, Rose Woodfork of Norman, OK, Leola Hardwick of Wewoka, OK and Vera Oliver of Oklahoma City, OK. And numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and 1 brother.
