Carmel descended from the pioneer Hinds/Buckman family of Exeter, Ca. in the 1850's. Her father was Clement Emery Hinds "Pete" of Exeter, Tulare Co., CA and her mother was Anna Margaret Clark of San Jose, Santa Clara California who settled in Atwater in 1909.

Carmel was born into a teaching family, Her mother, her sister Aileen, and her three sons. Carmel taught for nearly fify years.

Carmel married Edgar Flinders Nov 7, 1936 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church,Merced, CA. The Rev. Father Edward Cronin read the service. "Miss Catherine Hinds, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Mrs. E.W. Derbidge of Oakland, a cousin, was matron of honor".

In her later yeas (after her husband died)and she, in her eighties, worked at the opening of the Adult Day Care Center. She was probably older than most of the folks she cared for at the Alzheimer's center. She watched after folks, played cards with them, made sure they didn't wander off.

She passed away peacefully at her home as her oldest son held her hand and was saying a prayer for her.
