Lula Mae Bowers, 77, of McLeansboro died at 8:40 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2001, at her home.
She was born on February 11, 1923, the daughter of William A. Ollie E. (Miller) Abbott.
She married Charles (Chick) Bowers on August 26, 1939 and he survives.
She was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Charles "Chick"; four daughters, Linda Veatch of McLeansboro, Paula Sue Fraley of Broughton, Mary Jane Cannon of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Debra White of Mount Vernon, Indiana; three sons, William Lee, Jerry Dean and Charles Michael, all of McLeansboro; a sister, Emma Jane Frick of Mount Vernon, Illinois; a brother, William "Bill" Abbott of McLeansboro; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried and Rev. Jim Hutchcraft officiated. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to hopice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Robert and Frank Abbott plus three sisters, Katherine Cremeens, Anna Belle Draper, and Pauline Jones.
