He was born in Refugio on Oct. 7, 1929, to Elisardo and Magdalena Rocha Cantu.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; son, Robert Rene; sister, Ida Staton and two brothers, Elisardo Cantu Jr. and Daniel "Pilo" Cantu.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Leo Cantu Jr. and Felicia, and Richard Cantu Sr. and Arlene, all of Woodsboro; daughter-in-law, Mary Diane Cantu of Victoria; three sisters, Virginia Garcia of Rocksprings, Wyo., Gloria Hernandez of Woodsboro, and Patty Cantu of Refugio; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Moore Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Woodsboro. Burial followed in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Cantu Jr., Ramsey Cantu, Roland Hernandez, George Hernandez, Castulo Delgado Jr., and John Joseph Delgado.
