This gravestone when cleaned and enhanced had the name "Betty Gardner Baby in arms". The name was crudely hand etched by an amateur using a knife or other sharp object. Defacing of this headstone is incorrect. Someone knew the story of Betty Lawhon who died at birth and was buried with the infant in her arms. Unable to find the marker, the individual incorrectly decided that this was the one. Betty Lawhon is Nancy Elizabeth "Betty" (Lawhon) Gardner. She is buried in Row 3 with her infant in her arms and beside her brother James Wesley Lawhon. "Betty" was the wife of James Madison "Tuck" Gardner.
The infant is buried next to David Burl Lawhon and wife Lucy Gardner. Although it has not been established, it is likely that this is their child.
