He was the great grandson of William Gibson, one of the early settlers to Jay County. He married first to Bessie May Warner in 1907 and they had one son and two daughters, Melva, Ralph and Mildred. After Bessie's death, he married Carrie Talmage. He accidentally drowned in the St. Joseph River while fishing with his son, Ralph. It was said that he was a good swimmer. He had been a barber.
