"The funeral of Mrs. Julia Lyke, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eber H. Packer, at Portlandville, on Friday, April 14th, was held at the Christian church Monday, at 10 a. m. The Rev. L. A. Dykeman, a former pastor of the church at Portlandville, and a personal friend of the deceased, assisted by the Rev. W. E. Elwood of this place officiated. Miss Minnie Bishop and Fayette DeLong sang two selections, with Mrs. George Becker as organist. Mrs. Lyke was born at Rural Grove December 5th, 1843, and was married to Rev. Martin D. Lyke of Fort Plain, October 1871. They went to Portlandville thirty-five years ago, where Mr. Lyke conducted the mill and feed business for about ten years, dying at a hospital in Easton, Pa., after a serious operation in September, 1908. Since that time Mrs. Lyke has resided there, where she was loved and respected by all for the exemplary life she led; and her influence for good will never pass away. She is survived by the daughter, two grandchildren, Mrs. Clark and Lyle Packer of Portlandville, one sister, Mrs. Rose Cadman of Gloversville, who was unable to be present for the funeral, owing to the illness of her husband, Riley Cadman, but was in attendance at the burial service in Fort Plain ..."
