Confederate veteran; John M. Anderson was born in 1836 in McNairy County, Tennessee to Absolom B. and Jane Anderson. By 1860 the family had moved to Williamson County, Texas where John married Malinda Harrison in 1861. On July 1, 1862 John enrolled in Co. A the 30th Cavalry of Gurley's Regiment at Camp McCullough in McLennen County near Waco. By April 12, 1863 he had died of typhoid in a Columbus, Colorado County, Texas Confederate hospital. One of his fellow soldiers from Williamson County helped bury him, per Malinda's 1904 widows pension application.
