"Ennis, Texas, Aug.25,-Hix McCanless,70, pioneer architect and surveyor, died at his home here Thursday. He was born in Pulaski, Giles County, Tenn., but has resided in Ennis since 1878.
He was a member of all the York Rite Masonic bodies and served as worshipful master of Ennis Lodge and high priest of Ennis Chapter. He also served about four years as district deputy grand master for the eighteenth Masonic district.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Arthur McCanless of Ennis; a daughter, Mrs. J. T. Carney of Winnsboro; a brother, Ernest McCanless of Dallas, and a sister, Mrs. Eva Barnes of Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held here Friday, with masonic burial in Myrtle Cemetery."
The location of his burial in the cemetery has not yet been found.
