KOSCIUSKO — Funeral services for Charlie Boyd Edwards, 85, of West were held Monday at 10 a.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Durant with burial in Brister Cemetery.

Edwards, a native of Holmes County, died Jan. 28, 2011 at his home. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired following 40 years as a track supervisor with Illinois Central Railroad.

He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, a former chairman of the Brister Cemetery Committee, member of Bethel Lodge 107, Eastern Star 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1983 of which he was a past commander. He was also a past president of the Possumneck-Carmack Water Association.

He is survived by his wife, Fay Brister Edwards of West; a son, Edmund (Twyla) Edwards of West; daughters, Nancy (Jim) Hynum of Port Gibson, Charlene Gray of West; daughter-in-law, Doris Edwards of West; brother, George Edwards of Durant; sisters, Ruth Kurth of San Antonio, Texas, Katherine Williams of Williamsville and Dot Burchfield of Ridgeland; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Ralph Hunt, Rev. Danny Townsend and Rev. Benton Goodman officiated.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Edwards; brothers, Willie, Bud, and Edmund Edwards; sisters, Minnie Ellis, Bessie Goss and Mary Frances Cook.

Pallbearers were Eddie Edwards, Will Edwards, Chuck Waters, Paul Nelson, Pat Hughes and Chris Oakman.

Honorary pallbearers were Dew Oakman, Takoda Waters, Lee Edwards, Seven Edwards, Masons of Bethel Lodge 107, Eastern Star Chapter 400, Stonestreet-Rone VFW Post 1983, and IC Railroad personnel.
