He was a member of the Baptist Church. On September 25. 1930 he married the former Esther Neldene Sloan in Oklahoma. James was a mechanic by trade.
Survivors include his widow Esther, two daughters, Peggy Jo McDonald of Tyler and LouAnn Close of Kilgore; three sons, James E. Close in the U. S. Navy, Donald W. Close in the Air Force and Ronald S. Close of Kilgore; his parents Odis and Annie Close; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Rogers of Canton and Mrs. Opal Walters of Dallas; one brother Elmer Close of Ridgeway and four grandchildren.
James, age 50, died Monday June 26, 1961 at Kilgore Hospital. Burial will be in Ridgeway Cemetery, Hopkins County, Texas.
