Carrie was a pioneer with a great capacity for work, who found time to supplement her limited formal education through continuous self-teaching, rearing a large family, participating in the LDS Church, and finding expression of an artistic temperament through making rugs and quilts. She was the first of 12 children born to John and Eliza Marie Sorensen Roberts at Smithfield, Utah in 1875. The fall of 1883 the family moved to the Bear Lake Valley making their home in Lanark, Idaho. There were many hardships, yet she always had a positive attitude. She and George H. Passey were married September 2, 1895 in the Logan Temple. When she became his wife she also became the mother of his three little daughters, Olive, Flossie and Della. The family lived in Lanark for about eight years where George Iland, John R, and Eliza Drucilla were born. They then moved to Sterling Alberta Canada where they farmed and had milk cows. Five more children were born while there; Lamont, Milford, Vilda, Leola and Clinton. After 13 years in Canada, they returned home and settled in Paris Idaho. Three more children were born, Lael, Blaine, and Lloyd, making a total of 10 children. How she loved them and her step childtren also with all of her heart. Her activities in the LDS church include, counselor and teacher in Primary, treasurer of the YWMIA; secretary and counselor on two occasions for the Relief Society and as a visiting teacher. Also at various times as a member of the Lanark and Paris Second Ward Choirs as well as the Bear Lake Stake Choir. She loved to serve others her entire life. She was always busy, braiding over 200 rugs and piecing and quilting over 75 full size and numerous twin sized quilts. These lasting gifts of love, she made for her family after the death of her husband in 1941.
